FAQ — Twitch Chat
Is the chat background transparent in OBS?
Yes. The overlay loads with a transparent background in the Browser Source: only the messages and the frame you styled show on air. You can also pick a semi-transparent or glass container in the editor.
Do I need a bot or an extension to display chat?
No. The widget reads chat through an anonymous IRC connection opened by the overlay itself: no bot to invite, no token to paste. Type your channel name and you're done.
Does it work with Streamlabs or XSplit?
Yes. Any software that accepts a Browser Source displays the widget: OBS Studio, Streamlabs Desktop, XSplit, vMix…
Can I hide chat commands?
Yes, the built-in filter hides messages starting with “!” (!so, !clip…). Message history is capped in memory, built to last through multi-hour streams.
